Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) is an island located in the Indian Ocean adjacent to India and the Maldives. The legislative capital is Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte. The largest city on the island and its commercial centre is the city of Colombo. The main part of the state is located on the island of Sri Lanka, but the country also includes many small islands. A warm and humid tropical climate prevails throughout the country, with the temperature range throughout the year not exceeding 5 degrees. The average temperature on the coast is 30 degrees, the water temperature is about 28 degrees. The high season on the southwest coast lasts from December to April; in other months, the northeast coast is best suited for beach relaxation.

The total number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka in 2023 exceeded 1.4 million – the highest number of tourists in one year since the coronavirus pandemic began in March 2020. The country’s authorities predict that in 2024 the tourist flow will reach 3 million people.
