Belarus, Russia reaffirmed commitment to Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

The foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia, Sergei Aleinik and Sergei Lavrov, have signed a joint statement on the two states’ common foreign policy priorities following their talks in Moscow today

"We reaffirm our commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, contribute to its strengthening, and counteract attempts to politicise it. Our countries contribute to the prevention of an arms race in outer space, seek to launch negotiations on the development of an appropriate international instrument, and contribute to the globalisation of the initiative on not being the first to use weapons in outer space. Belarus and Russia co-operate in the field of biological security, counteract the military-biological activity of third countries near our borders. We co-ordinate actions on the topic of chemical disarmament and non-proliferation, advocate depoliticization and restoration of the authority of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons," the document reads.

It is also noted that Minsk and Moscow are implementing the Concept of Information Security of the Union State, countering attempts to destabilise the information space. "We contribute to the prevention of conflicts in the information sphere, we strive to create an equal and transparent interstate Internet management system while preserving the sovereign right of states to regulate its national segments," the foreign ministers noted.
