Belarus’ Foreign Ministry: aggressive rhetoric becoming dominant in the EU

The European Union is so perfect that its leaders probably have nothing else to discuss except interference in the affairs of other sovereign states – as stated by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press secretary, Anatoly Glaz, while commenting on the results of the summit of the EU member states in Brussels, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service reports

"The European Union is so perfect that its leaders probably have nothing else to discuss except interference in the affairs of other sovereign states. There is a feeling that the summit could not have taken place without Belarus and Russia," the Foreign Ministry noted, adding that ‘the latest sanctions threats did not surprise at all. Unfortunately, the rhetoric of aggression is becoming dominant in the European Union, while European officials stubbornly follow this dead-end path’.

"Threats, definitely, do not contribute to solving any problems, but aggravate the situation. There will always be an adequate response to any sanctions and other destructive steps. There is a feeling that some EU countries may not be able to withstand this response. We wish to believe that those making these decisions will restore their reasonableness, and a responsible approach will prevail," the Foreign Ministry stressed.

It was also noted that ‘deliberate formation of an alternative reality regarding refugees is again being observed in the statement’. The Foreign Ministry explained, "Take at least a certain requirement to ensure access of international organisations. We remind you for the thousandth time that, on the Belarusian side, competent international organisations have been working since the first day of the crisis and until now, even a EU delegation went there. The EU knows this very well but still continues to repeat this old mantra. What for? In order to create a feeling of a certain closed zone on the Belarusian side and further demonise our country. These are very primitive techniques."

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry reminded European officials that ‘the colonial era is over and they have the right to demand anything only from their member countries’. "Therefore, it would not hurt them to strongly request Poland, Lithuania or Latvia to stop brutal reprisals against migrants and ensure access of international organisations, the public and the media to the border – and also to strictly meet their own, European, laws and standards," the Foreign Ministry added.

Belarus’ Foreign Ministry repeated its call to the European Union to stop generating tension and start solving joint problems in our region by joint efforts through a mutually respectful dialogue.
