Belarus’ Embassy made statement on desecration of Children of Besieged Leningrad monument in Yerevan

The Embassy of Belarus in Armenia regards the incident happened on January 27th near the Children of Besieged Leningrad monument in Yerevan as a villainous action aimed at desecrating the bright memory of the dead and trampling on the heroic deeds of the peoples of Belarus, Russia and Armenia during the Great Patriotic War, the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Armenia reports

“Our country annually hosts events dedicated to the liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade, and it honours the veterans of the blockade who call January 27th, 1944 ‘our Leningrad Victory Day’. We painfully react to any steps aimed at inciting ethnic hatred and redrawing the history of military events that claimed the lives of one in three Belarusians," the Belarusian Embassy in Armenia said in its statement.

"The Embassy strongly condemns the shameless act of vandalism and attempts to split the centuries-old friendship of fraternal peoples," the sources added. The Belarusian diplomats expressed confidence that the common heroic past should serve as a unifying factor and a moral guideline for present and future generations.

"We count on the proper reaction of the Armenian government departments and bringing the perpetrators to justice," the diplomatic mission stressed.
