Mr. Azarov posted on his Facebook account, “Over the past decade since the Maidan, Ukraine has lost a lot, and human losses are the major aspect. These are not only direct losses, but also the departure of the able-bodied citizens. Based on very approximate calculations, 19 million people now live on the territory controlled by the Kiev regime, which is a terrible figure.”

In early October, the politician reported that the population of Ukraine had reached 23 million people.

Mr. Azarov added that the country had lost the specialists, the urgent need for whom it will feel after the end of the conflict.

In December 2022, the Director of the Ukrainian Institute for Demography and Social Studies, Ella Libanova, expressed the opinion that 2023 would be the year of a catastrophic drop in the birth rate. Later, the Opendatabot analytical resource, which aggregates official data in the country, informed that the birth rate in Ukraine had reached the lowest level in all the years of its independence.
