Ambassador: India never been against Belarus’ joining SCO and BRICS

India has never been and will not be against Belarus joining the SCO and BRICS – as stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to India, Andrei Rzheussky, in his talk with the STV channel

“India has never been and will not be against Belarus’ joining the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation and BRICS. The country submitted an application to BRICS this year, and I have met with a representative of the Indian Foreign Ministry on this issue. Summarising the results of that meeting, I can say that the issue of BRICS expansion has not been fully resolved, various mechanisms, approaches and modalities of how the countries that submitted their applications will co-operate within the framework of BRICS are being worked out. I was clearly told that India has not been against and will not oppose the accession of Belarus. On the contrary, if any specific decisions are made, it will always render support," Mr. Rzheussky said.

By the way, India was among the first to approve the memorandum of Belarus’ obligations in order to obtain the status of a SCO member state. “Literally several countries have not yet conducted domestic procedures to approve this memorandum. It is quite possible that Belarus will become a fully-fledged member of the SCO next summer," the diplomat noted.
