Ambassador: Belarus expects to own maritime transportation infrastructure in Russia in couple of years
Belarus expects to run its own maritime transportation infrastructure in Russia in two or three years – as stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Russian Federation, Dmitry Krutoi, in his talk with the ONT TV channel
The diplomat stressed that Belarus actively liaises with Russia in solving logistical issues and expanding access to port infrastructure for cargo transshipment. “These are the Baltic ports as our base route, and the Murmansk – Northern Sea Route is the most important direction. We are also considering the possibility of participating in the nuclear fleet construction programme, among other issues. This fleet will provide appropriate navigation in difficult weather conditions," he said.
Mr. Krutoi added that, at the Union State’s Supreme State Council meeting on January 29th, Russian partners invited to work with their United Shipbuilding Corporation.
"The Far East is another important route, we do not disregard its ports. The North and the South are also in focus. So far, we have 20 ports, and there are excellent prospects not only for classical transshipment of our goods, but also for entering into these projects with an investment portfolio. When we have our own fleet and our own ships, we will not depend on either Western infrastructure or the infrastructure of unfriendly countries. We will be the owners of the full-fledged infrastructure, we will be able to oversee these logistical costs independently. This is the paramount task, and I think it will be resolved in the next two or three years," the diplomat said.
