The talks were held during a meeting between Belarus’ Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich and his Russian counterpart Nikolai Shulginov. The parties considered the progress in the implementation of the action plans for the realisation of the Union State programmes, envisaging the creation of common energy markets, including the preparation of the necessary regulatory and legal framework.

The negotiators also paid attention to the terms of interaction within the framework of the common electricity market: amendments to the agreement on the parallel operation of the two countries’ energy systems were agreed, and domestic procedures are being carried out to sign this document. They also discussed the principles of forming a common gas market.
