According to WHO, cholera cases in 2023 have exceeded previous years’ levels, with 603,731 cases and 3,804 deaths reported as of October 15th. According to the organisation, 472,697 cases of cholera were identified worldwide in 2022, and 223,370 in 2021.

It is noted that since early 2023, twenty-nine countries have reported cholera outbreaks. The WHO said that given the large number of outbreaks and their geographic spread, as well as the lack of vaccines and other resources, the organisation continues to assess the risk at the global level as very high.
