US withdrawing its troops from air base in Niamey
The American military personnel have left the base in Niamey – as stated by the authorities of Niger and the United States in a joint communique, TASS reports
It is noted that the operation was completed ahead of schedule and without any complications.
“The Defence Ministry of the Republic of Niger and the US Department of Defence announce that the withdrawal of American forces and equipment from air base 101 in Niamey has been completed,” the statement says.
A group of American military personnel still remained at the base in Agadez – located in the north of Niger.
“American troops will now focus on withdrawing from airbase 201 in Agadez. Nigerian and American officials are determined to ensure a safe, orderly withdrawal [of troops] by September 15th, 2024,” the joint communique reads.
