Hollywood screenwriters have begun a strike because they failed to agree with film studios on the improvement of working conditions and increase in wages, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Axios

“The American Screenwriters Guild called for the first strike in 15 years after negotiations on a labour agreement with Hollywood studios broke down,” the source said, adding that the guild members will cease to perform the duties of screenwriters, but will be able to produce and direct.

The contract between the American Screenwriters Guild and the Alliance of Film and Television Producers, which includes Amazon, Apple, CBS, Disney, NBC Universal, Netflix, Paramount Global, Sony and Warner Bros. Discovery expires on May 2nd. The document of at least 750 pages stipulates not only the minimum wage for members of the guild, which is actually a trade union, but also all legal working issues.

According to CNN, the strike may cause the production of new TV programmes, series and films.
