The Culture Minister of Ukraine posted in his Telegram channel, “We have prepared and are submitting a dossier for the inclusion of Odessa into the main UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List under an accelerated procedure."

Mr. Tkachenko explained that Odessa’s joining the list would guarantee international attention to preservation of the city and ‘would better protect the world cultural heritage’. The dossier was prepared by the Odessa City Council together with the Culture Ministry.

Earlier, the UNESCO press service – following the meeting of Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNESCO, with the Ukrainian Culture Minister – reported that Kiev would ask UNESCO to add the historical centre of Odessa to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. UNESCO has attracted specialists to consider Odessa's candidacy at a meeting of the World Heritage Committee. The international organisation, as it is known, will support Odessa in digitising about a thousand works of art stored in Odessa, as well as documentary funds of the city’s state archive.
