UK to check how TikTok protects underage users’ privacy
The Information Commissioner's Office of the UK is investigating how TikTok, Reddit and Imgur platforms use the personal data of minors to recommend content, TASS reports
As noted, the investigations focus on how TikTok, Reddit and Imgur protect the privacy of their underage users in the UK. It is reported that the investigation into TikTok will examine how the platform uses the personal information of British users aged 13-17 to recommend and distribute content in their feed.
The reason for the review was ‘growing concern’ about the use of teenagers' personal data, which could lead to inappropriate and harmful content being shown to young people. The regulator's specialists are also checking which measures Imgur and Reddit are taking to confirm the age of users.
