UEFA doesn’t object to Russian team participation in Central Asia Championship

The possible participation of the Russian team in the Central Asian Football Federation (CAFA) does not contradict the previous decision of the UEFA Executive Committee to bar Russian teams and clubs from participation in tournaments under the auspices of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) – as reported in the press service of the organisation, TASS reports

UEFA’s announcement states that friendly matches are not part of UEFA competitions and, as such, fall outside the competence and responsibility of the UEFA. Therefore, the participation of Russian teams in a friendly tournament isn’t in contradictions with the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee to suspend Russian teams from participating in UEFA competitions.

On March 13th, the press service of the Tajikistan Football Federation (TFF) reported that the Russian national football squad would play in the CAFA Championship, which will be held June 9th-21st in Bishkek and Tashkent. On the same day, the Russian Football Union (RFU) announced that the possibility and conditions for the participation of the Russian team in this tournament are now being discussed.
