“The Black Sea holds great potential, and it also promises hope for the steps that we will take from now on. During the year, we will continue working at the Sakarya gas field, and then we will be able to move to the middle part of the Black Sea,” Mr. Donmez noted.

In 2020, a gas field was discovered in the Black Sea off the coast of Turkiye. The volumes were estimated at 540bn cubic metres, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called it the largest in the country. He also announced the discovery of another field with a volume of 58bn cubic metres. According to the Turkish leader, the total Black Sea gas reserves reached 710bn cubic metres – worth $1 trillion on international markets.
