Train drivers go on strike in Germany

On Wednesday night, a mass strike of train drivers began in Germany, already leading to schedule disruptions and cancellation of many trains, RIA Novosti reports

Earlier, the German GDL train drivers’ union announced that the strike would begin on the night of January 10th and last until the evening of Friday, January 12th. It is reported that train traffic has been ‘severely limited’ since early this morning. Passengers are urged to focus on the ‘emergency’ schedule and even to refrain from travelling by rail until the end of the strike, if possible.

However, getting to the desired point by car can also be problematic: until the end of the week, German farmers are protesting as well, blocking roads with their tractors. They are unhappy with the government's plans to cut subsidies.
