Symbolic gift made in ancient technique presented by women to Lukashenko

Representatives of the Belarusian Women’s Union presented My Ancient Polotsk panel to the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during his today’s meeting with the association’s activists

The panel is made in the technique of patchwork, one of the oldest traditional crafts. The masters of the Polotsk land were among the first to actively develop this type of folk art. The technique is unique since the work is done from pieces of fabric, which are fixed with finishing stitches. As a result, a full-scale picture is born.

The panel features a corner of ancient Polotsk in winter. The depicted original architecture is combined with the majestic towers of St. Sophia Cathedral, which adds a special cultural meaning to the work. Ancient Polotsk is the centre of the Belarusian statehood. It was here a thousand years ago that St. Yevfrosiniya Polotskaya initiated the women's movement in the Belarusian lands, choosing the path of selfless service to the Motherland and people, becoming an example for all Belarusian women.

The panel is authored by Svetlana Boltrushevich, a member of the Belarusian Union of Folk Artists.
