Germany has been hit by another wave of strikes caused by high inflation, staff shortages and the breakdown of salary negotiations in key branches of the transport sector, including national railways, airlines and public transport.

“Train drivers began new strikes on March 7th at 2am local time, leading the national railway operator Deutsche Bahn to warn passengers that it would be able to run only a small proportion of its normal services. During the previous strike at the end of January, Deutsche Bahn was able to handle only one in five services,” the publications reads.

In addition, airports in Frankfurt, Germany's busiest air hub, and Hamburg cancelled their flights on March 7th because of striking security workers. The ADV Airport Association stated that the protests in the aviation sector were undermining Germany's reputation as a business and tourism hub. It estimated that the strike on March 7th would affect the travel plans of more than 250,000 people.
