SCO granted observer status within CIS at summit in Dushanbe

At today’s meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council, the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) was given observer status — as announced during the final press conference following the event

It should be reminded that during his speech at the CIS summit held in a narrow format, Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised the need for the CIS to enhance co-operation with like-minded countries and organisations to advance a unified international agenda and protect shared principles and values.

“In this context, it is advantageous to give the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation observer status within the CIS,” the Belarusian leader pointed out.
