Russia’s Leningrad Region keen to supply automotive components for BelGee to Belarus

The Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation is interested in the supply of automotive components to Belarus and proposes to explore this possibility – as noted by the Governor of this Russian region, Aleksandr Drozdenko, during his visit to the BelGee enterprise (Borisov District, Minsk Region) – as reported by the press service of the Leningrad Region Government

“As we know, this is excellent modern production of passenger cars, and the demand for them is growing every day. We see prospects for co-operation in the supply of automotive components produced in the Leningrad Region. I suggest exploring this possibility. The logistics ‘shoulder’ for the delivery of, e.g., rims or tyres will be much shorter than shipping them from Asia,” Governor Drozdenko underlined.

The Belarusian-Chinese joint-stock company BelGee, which manufactures passenger cars under the Geely brand, was established in 2011. In February 2013, the first passenger car was assembled at the enterprise. In November 2017, BelGee opened a Geely small-unit assembly plant in the Borisov District of the Minsk Region, using a Chinese loan worth $158.7m. The total investments stand at approximately 400m Euros. The plant occupies an area of 118 hectares, the potential number of employees at the enterprise totals 1,300 people. Currently, its facilities produce the Geely Atlas, Geely Atlas Pro, Emgrand X7 New, Coolray crossovers, the Geely Emgrand 7 New sedan and the Geely GS cross-hatchback, as well as a car under its own brand BelGee X50. The company also plans to start producing electric vehicles.
