According to the source, the protesters shouted slogans such as: ‘We will not forgive the change of the Constitution!’, ‘We are against militarisation’, and others.

The campaign was organised on the occasion of Constitution Day celebrated in Japan on May 3rd. No incidents, including clashes with the police, were reported.

According to a survey conducted by the largest Japanese newspaper, Yomiuri, 61 percent of the country's residents support amendments to the Constitution, and 33 percent are against them.

Interestingly, not a single amendment has been made to the Constitution of Japan since it was adopted in 1947.

According to the existing legislation, amendments to the Constitution are possible only after a national referendum is held in the country. The latter can take place only if supported by two-thirds of deputies of both chambers of Japan’s Parliament.
