The Iranian leader stressed that the key to improving the situation in the Middle East is negotiations and co-operation between the neighbours, rather than the presence of foreign – in particular, American – troops in the region.

Ebrahim Raisi met with Iraqi President Abdel Latif Rashid in Tehran, who arrived in Iran on an official visit. The Iranian leader pointed out that ‘the Iran-Iraq partnership, which is of a strategic nature, has gone beyond bilateral ties and has acquired important regional and international significance’.

According to Ebrahim Raisi, the trade turnover between the two neighbouring states reached $10bn in 2022 and has a tendency to further increase. “We have good relations in the political, economic, trade and cultural spheres, and the two countries are determined to develop them to meet the needs of the Iranian and Iraqi peoples," he stated.
