In his talk with La Repubblica, Pope Francis said that ‘imperial interests’ of different countries are involved in the Ukrainian conflict, TASS reports
The pontiff confirmed his readiness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and called the ongoing events a world war. "It started in pieces, but all the major powers are involved [now]. Ukraine has become a battlefield, everyone is fighting there," he said, stressing that the imperial interests of different countries are involved in the Ukrainian conflict. "Consigning nations to the sideline is in the imperial spirit," the Pope added.

The Pope has repeatedly stated that his trip to Kiev is possible only if he visits Moscow.
