Pope called US policy of expelling illegal migrants a major crisis
Pope Francis has urged the faithful in the US not to succumb to discriminatory policies against migrants and called the US authorities’ policy of expelling illegal migrants a major crisis, RIA Novosti reports
Pope Francis noted that ‘a properly formed conscience cannot fail to make a critical judgement and express its opposition to any measure that tacitly or explicitly identifies the irregular status of some migrants with criminality’.
According to the Pope, deportation ‘damages the dignity of many men and women, and of entire families, and places them in a state of particular vulnerability and defencelessness’.
In January, Pope Francis already condemned US President Donald Trump’s migration policies, particularly his plans to deport illegal migrants, calling them a ‘disgrace’.
