Politico warns Trump taking office could undermine the dollar

In his opinion piece for Politico, columnist Edward Fishman asserted that the sanctions policy proposed by the Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump could undermine the dollar as the global reserve currency if Trump wins the election, TASS reports

According to Mr. Fishman, Trump coming back to the White House may bring realisation that ‘dollar dominance is more fragile than it seems’. The journalist linked threats to the dollar status to Trump’s ‘disregard for allies’ and reluctance to consult them when it comes to imposing restrictions.

The columnist also emphasised that the next US President’s sanctions policy could have serious ramifications for the dollar’s global role, if the next President is Trump. He cautioned that ‘overuse of sanctions’ could undermine Washington’s economic leadership and herald ‘the demise of the almighty dollar’.
