PA adopted recommendations on responsibility for acts related to rehabilitation of Nazism

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation adopted recommendations on responsibility for acts related to the rehabilitation of Nazism and distortion of historical truth during a joint meeting of the Council and the sixteenth plenary session of the CSTO PA in Moscow

As stated in the explanatory note to the recommendations, the preservation of the historical memory of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, the protection of historical truth, the preservation and support of traditional spiritual and moral values are of fundamental importance for all CSTO member states and aim to strengthen their national and civic identity, ensure interethnic and interreligious peace and harmony, as well as successful social-economic development.

The recommendations outline simple and qualified elements of such crimes as Rehabilitation of Nazism and Repeated Propaganda or Public Display of Nazi Paraphernalia or Symbols, and also highlight ways to incorporate them into the national legislation of the CSTO member states.

According to the document developers, the co-ordinated actions of the CSTO countries to criminalise acts aimed at rehabilitating Nazism and distorting historical truth will create the necessary conditions for further progressive development of co-operation in countering any manifestations of extremism, neo-Nazism, racial discrimination, aggressive nationalism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia, attempts to falsify history and use it to escalate confrontation and revanchism in world politics, as well as attempts to revise the results of the Second World War.
