Opinion: Russia’s position is most balanced of all nuclear powers

Russia has the most balanced position of all the nuclear powers – as noted by Associate Professor of the Department of State and Legal Disciplines of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), Candidate of Political Sciences Kira Sazonova, in her talk with 1tv.ru

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow does not plan to lower the nuclear threshold, reminding that in Russian military doctrine there are two reasons for the possible use of nuclear weapons: a strike against Russia and a threat to the existence of the country.

“I believe that the Russian position is the most balanced of all nine nuclear powers. North Korea, India and Pakistan are not parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Israeli authorities have never confirmed the presence of nuclear weapons while the United States deploys its nuclear arsenal in a variety of locations, including in European countries,” noted Kira Sazonova.

She added that, according to the military doctrine of the Russian Federation, Moscow will not allow itself to be offended, but also ‘will not initiate any kind of Armageddon’.

“If there is no threat to Russian sovereignty, there will be no threat from Russia. Vladimir Putin allowed that Russia could revoke its ratification of the nuclear test ban treaty. People, without really understanding the situation, began making loud headlines in the media though Moscow ratified this treaty, but Washington did not. The document never came into force,” the speaker underlined.
