Opinion: Kazakhstan is becoming a new regional leader in Central Asia

Kazakhstan is enhancing its influence in the Central Asian region, while developing a multi-vector policy – as stated by the Deputy Head of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus’ Military Academy, Candidate of Military Sciences Aleksandr Bogodel, in his talk with the CTV TV channel

Mr. Bogodel shared his view that Kazakhstan’s role within the CSTO and the Central Asian region in general will increase. “Another regional leader is emerging," he said.

Speaking about the country’s multi-vector foreign policy, Mr. Bogodel listed its most important directions. Among them are Russia and the CSTO states, ‘the Turkic Union and the Islamic world’, ‘China as the most powerful state, both economically and militarily’, and also ‘Western countries that are acting very brazenly today’.

“Kazakhstan needs to manoeuvre between these vectors, and I think it will use its geopolitical position very effectively," he stated.
