Opinion: Belarus will not give its national welfare to moneybags

Global capital exerts pressure on Belarus, but the republic is trying to restrict this influence – as noted by political expert Aleksandr Shpakovsky in his talk with Alfa Radio

According to the expert, since Belarus is socially-oriented and has a significant share of state (or to be even more correct – people’s) property in the country's economy, it can restrict the economic pressure imposed by the West.

“Belarus will not give its national wealth – including potash fertilisers and forest resources – to moneybags. This is a distinctive feature of the policy of President Aleksandr Lukashenko. Actually, numerous attempts of the opposition to overthrow the Belarusian leader had this in view. If I meet critical-minded people, I just ask them, “Why do you think the West has been turning to various forces and means to overthrow the Belarusian Head of State for almost three decades?".
