No empire will use lies to show its strength

This opinion has been voiced by Aleksei Avdonin, an analyst with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies, in his talk with Alfa Radio

Programme host Vadim Shepet recalled that an Italian newspaper said the photos of Donetsk residents killed as a result of a Tochka-U strike had been made in Kiev – allegedly depicting victims of the Russian troops' attack.

“There is morality, and there is finance. The editor or owner of this newspaper was well aware that a publication of the kind could bring them significant funds. Everyone knew perfectly well where those photos had come from: the journalists who published them had seen the source. Obviously, they were pursuing the goal of making money. In addition, they probably had a customer who wanted to produce an effect on all Italians demonstrating that Russia is an aggressor. The West’s information war has no moral and human principles. It aims exclusively at pushing its society into a state of zombification – for people there to be afraid of Russians and, as a result, support any decisions of the West to impose sanctions against Russia," the expert noted.

Mr. Avdonin believes the West is also pursuing economic goals in its information war, “This way [fake news] enables them to justify the pricing of food and gasoline in their countries. They will simply convince citizens that Russia – which allegedly attacked Ukraine – is to blame for this.”

“The West made many big mistakes in 2010 and in 2020. They now need to somehow save the face – but how can they do this? [This is possible] by doing the key enemy represented by Russia even more terrible. China may probably become another terrible opponent. In reality, we see only one thing: institutions are working to create fake news but – by doing so – they are showing their weakness. After all, no empire will use lies to show that it is strong. Power comes not with lies, but with the truth. This is the key,” the expert added.

According to Mr. Avdonin, the West does not have so many resources to oppose Russia, “I should say that the leadership of Belarus, as well as Russia and China, have retained sobriety of mind and foresight in the vision of the future. All the husk of the West that filled the information space will go away – to be replaced by the basic provisions: justice, truth and the norms of international law. These norms must be observed, otherwise the 3rd World War might happen.”
