The delegation of the History Institute of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus, headed by Director Vadim Lakiza, is taking part in the international research and practical forum in Gatchina – as reported in the NAS’ press service
From November 20th-23rd, 2022, Leningrad Region’s Gatchina is hosting an international research and practical forum, entitled No Statute of Limitations. Genocide of the Soviet People by the Nazis and Their Proxies during the Great Patriotic War: Historical Reflection and Judicial Practice. Academic scientists-historians present new data obtained as a result of studying the topic of the Great Patriotic War and the facts of the genocide of the Belarusian people, as well as scientists’ contribution to the study of this issue.
The forum is aimed at preserving historical memory and the truth about key events that are of paramount importance in the current geopolitical situation, forming in the public mind a sense of rejection of Nazism and a stable idea of the inevitability of punishment for crimes against humanity, no matter what the statute of limitations they have. The forum is timed to coincide with the completion of two trials: in St. Petersburg and in the Leningrad Region, on the territory of which the scope of the genocide against peaceful Soviet citizens in terms of cruelty and coverage was unrivalled: more than 2.5 million people.
The forum is attended by statesmen and public figures of Russia, the judiciary, prosecutors, heads of state authorities and public associations of the regional level, as well as professional historians, lawyers, teachers, cultural and art workers.
