MP whether Belarusian taxpayers' money should be spent on protecting EU from migrants
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has recently approved a decision to protect the state border in 2025, stressing that it concerns not just a line on land, water or in the air, but is a very serious move to protect the sovereignty and defence of the republic. In his talk with Alfa Radio, Director General of Belarus’ National Library, a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Vadim Gigin, commented on the situation on the Belarusian border.
“Our task is to ensure the security and inviolability of our borders, to see possible threats,” Mr. Gigin said. “We are aware of the degree of tension along the entire border, and we have built an appropriate system of work. We have nothing to hide. There is a notorious migration-related issue on the border with the EU: Europeans are imposing sanctions against us, wishing to damage our economy in order to forcibly change the constitutional order, force us to abandon our principles and bring a puppet regime to power. Why should we spend our taxpayers' money in this case to strengthen the border and protect it from migrants who are travelling to their territory?”
Mr. Gigin noted that the above-mentioned issue is among the key ones on the European agenda, “We see that it has come out on top in Germany. People are so concerned about this problem that quite respectable parties are now adopting the agenda, programme and ideological demands on the migrant issue from the parties that were recognised as radical. They wish to know why migrants are coming to them, but this is happening because they invited these people. Migrants are now passing through Belarus’ territory. That was actually not observed some time ago, because the EU maintained contact with our border services and allocated money for their security. These migrants do not bother us in any way: these are peaceful people who have suffered from the policies of the West. Meanwhile, the EU has shielded from them and is demanding something from us.”
The MP drew attention to the fact that migrants still enter the territory of the European Union through clandestine routes. “How do they manage to do this? Poles say they have built a fence and control everything, while it suddenly turned out that thousands of these migrants enter the territory of Germany somehow. It has been found out that this is happening because corruption is flourishing in Poland and mafia structures (that help migrants penetrate the country) operate. With this in mind, the question arises: how are they going to deal with them [migrants] without building interaction with us? In Belarus, everything is regulated, we can calmly show our border to others, take journalists and politicians there. At the same time, Poles have been hiding their border from journalists, humanitarian organisations and international observers since 2021, and this is due to their clashes with migrants. Therefore, let them figure out for themselves what their problem is,” Mr. Gigin emphasised.
