Media: without change in strategy, AFU losses could equal number of WWI casualties

Because of Kiev’s counteroffensive problems and Washington’s difficulties in providing assistance, the US and Ukraine are searching for a new strategy aiming to minimise the number of casualties on the battlefield, TASS reports

The New York Times reports that, according to American officials, ‘without a change in strategy, 2024 could be akin to 1916, the deadliest year of World War I, when thousands of young men lost their lives and battle lines changed very little’.

As the publication notes, representatives of the US and Ukrainian authorities are considering a new strategy that can be implemented as early as 2024. The motivation for finding a new solution is Kiev’s counteroffensive failure and Washington’s difficulties in providing a new aid package.

The Americans are pushing for a conservative strategy that focuses on holding the territory Ukraine has, digging trenches and building up supplies and forces. According to the publication, the Ukrainians, on the contrary, want to go on the attack, either on the ground or with long-range strikes, with the hopes of seizing the world’s attention.
