It is reported that US President Joe Biden signed a bill in June 2023 to increase the national debt ceiling, which also includes a 1 percent reduction in spending by federal departments.

According to Politico, the Pentagon is expected to submit a request in March 2024 to fund its work in fiscal year 2025 in the amount of less than $850bn.

It is noted that this figure reflects a reduction in defence spending by approximately $10bn compared to the forecast for the next fiscal year, which is contained in the budget request. At that time, the department expected its budget to be around $859.7bn.

As Politico underlines, the Pentagon is not ready to cut costs for employee benefits. Therefore, the budget reduction will be carried out by reducing the cost of rearmament of the American armed forces.
