According to Reuters, Iran's attack on Israel caused the largest disruption in air traffic since the terrorist attack on September 11th, 2001. More than a dozen airlines, including Qantas, Lufthansa, United Airlines, and Air India, had to cancel or reroute their flights.

The agency noted that, according to Mark Zee, the founder of the consulting company OPSGROUP, the disruptions would continue for several more days, “Not since then [the terrorist attack on September 11th, 2001] have we had a situation with that many different air spaces closed down in that quick succession, and that creates chaos.”
