Main regional objects and sites of Belarus’ nationwide subbotnik 2023

The nationwide subbotnik – held in Belarus today will gather thousands of citizens at the sites that are important for the country – to contribute a piece of their own work and soul to the improvement and landscaping of their homeland. Large-scale and significant work is planned in the Belarusian regions as well, and below are listed the main sites.

In Brest, the subbotnik will be held in the Brest Fortress-Hero Memorial Complex and in the Park of Internationalist Soldiers. Almost 200 people will work at the Kobrin fortification of the Brest Fortress, including the leadership and students of the Academy of Management under the President of Belarus. In addition, the renovation and improvement of the Park of Internationalist Soldiers continues in Brest to make it a place of attraction for residents and guests of the city. In total, about 500 thousand people will work today throughout the Brest Region.

In the Vitebsk Region, more than 300 thousand people will participate in the subbotnik, and about Br1.3m are expected to be generated for the country. Residents of the region will mostly be engaged into the planting of trees in all local forestries. For example, employees of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee – led by the region’s head – will plant pine and birch trees in the Beshenkovichi District. More than 300 people will improve a new cadet camp in Polotsk. Moreover, people will work at the monuments of military glory in almost all districts of the region.

A wide range of works is planned in the Gomel Region, and more than 350 thousand people will work here for the benefit of their native land. In Rogachev, for example, a mass grave will be landscaped; here, 335 soldiers of the 3rd army of the 1st Belorussian Front were buried. In the Svetlogorsk District, local residents will work at the Ola Memorial Complex to honour the memory of the dead. In the Zhlobin District, the landscaping of the Monument to Children-Victims of the Great Patriotic War in the agro-town of Krasny Bereg is planned. Victory Park in the village of Komarin and the Monument to Internationalist Soldiers in Bragin have been declared youth objects. Trees will be planted in Gomel.

In the Grodno Region, about 280 thousand residents will work at the pre-determined most significant objects, and the main locations for improvement will include a polyclinic in the Olshanka residential district, a military burial in the Folyush residential district, and a secondary school under construction in the Grandichi district. In addition, forest and park zones in Grodno and all districts, as well as places of military glory will be put in order. Over a hundred representatives of the Grodno regional branch of trade unions will be engaged in the improvement of the Neman-72 sanatorium and the Grandichi residential district. As a result, residents of the region plan to generate more than Br870,000.

In the Mogilev Region, about 270 thousand people will participate in the nationwide subbotnik, and they plan to earn Br1.1m for the country. The list of objects includes memorial complexes, places of military glory, and burials of the Great Patriotic War. The city residents will landscape the territory near a new infectious disease building of Mogilev Hospital No. 1, put in order a complex in memory of the Soviet prisoners of war and civilians killed in a concentration camp in Schmidt Avenue. Belarusians will also work at the monument to the soldiers of the consolidated militia battalion under the command of Captain Vladimirov in the village of Gai, Mogilev District.
