Lukashenko tasked Belarus’ poultry industry to annually produce up to 800 thousand tonnes of poultry meat and 4 billion eggs

The strategic task for the poultry industry is to ensure technological and biological protection, as well as to increase production volumes to 800 thousand tonnes of poultry meat and 4 million eggs – as noted by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s meeting focusing on rural development and increasing agricultural efficiency

As for the development of the poultry farming, the Head of State stated that there is a slight increase in poultry meat production – by 0.5 percent compared to 2022 – and a drop in egg production by 0.7 percent (due to organisations in the Minsk and Vitebsk regions).

“At the same time, there is again a problem with mortality, which has increased by almost 12 percent. The highest rates are observed in the Mogilev and Gomel regions (a growth of over 30 percent in each). The reasons are non-compliance with the technology of stocking poultry houses and veterinary and sanitary rules for keeping poultry, as well as a lack of complete feed. Today, our poultry industry is still dependent on the import of nucleus breeding stock. Therefore, the key task here is to reduce this dependence in a revolutionary way,” the President underlined.

According to the Belarusian leader, until now there is no alternative to importing chickens for the production of hatching eggs. At the same time, during the recent seminar, he tasked the Council of Ministers to build a modern breeding and genetic centre for eggs. The government proposed setting up such a facility on the premises of Agrokombinat Dzerzhinsky.

Anyway, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that before making a final decision it is necessary to consider options with the heads of specialised enterprises, “This is a common problem. There is a lot of money to be invested. I have one question: why not set up an enterprise independent of poultry farms? Today we must discuss and adopt a decision. The strategic task is to ensure technological and biological protection of poultry farming, as well as to increase production volumes to 800 thousand tonnes of poultry meat and 4 billion eggs.”
