Lukashenko signed decree on conscription for compulsory military service in February-May 2024

On February 12th, the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, signed Decree No. 48 On Discharge from Active Duty, Conscription and Recruitment to the Reserve Force – as reported by the Belarusian leader’s press service

The document envisages the call up to active duty military service and service in the reserve of male citizens of the Republic of Belarus who are 18 years old by the day of conscription and who are not entitled to or have forfeited the right to a deferment from conscription. The decree also envisages the call up to service in the reserve of male citizens from among the first year students of agricultural higher education institutions who have the right to a deferment from conscription to continue their education and who have expressed a desire to undergo such service. Conscription for military service is scheduled for February-May 2024.

The adoption of the decree will enable the national government agencies, local executive and administrative bodies to take timely measures to recruit conscripts and reservists.

At the same time, the decree provides for the discharge from active duty of the military who have completed the established terms of military service.
