Lukashenko responded to wave of rumours: This is our goodwill, we should not drag anyone here

To return to Belarus or to stay abroad is an exclusively personal choice. As noted by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during his meeting with Prosecutor General Andrei Shved today, the authorities are demonstrating good will and will not drag anyone to the country by force in order to put them in prison.

In particular, the President commented on the wave of rumours that he allegedly wants to drag fugitives into the country in order to put them in prison, “We should not drag anyone here. They will read the decree and see how the commission will work. We are not going to imprison anyone a priori. Actually those who are likely to be imprisoned would not address the commission. However, we will consider the case if they apply; everything will be according to the law. The main thing here is not to drag them by force.”

As noted by the Head of State, an application to the commission can be submitted by email or post – following the suggestion of the Prosecutor General's Office.

“We will consider any application, but we are not going to drag them here by force to put them in prison – as they say. This is our goodwill, we have demonstrated it. You are welcome to address us, and we will consider your application. If you do not wish to do this, then stay there. You can either fight, clean streets or wash the dishes – if you wish. Those more trained will feed ammunition into machine guns in Poland or Lithuania. This is their choice, we do not force anyone, and we do no insist in this regard. This is the key in the commission’s work,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The President asked to keep him informed and added that, if necessary, he is ready to get involved in resolving issues, especially since the Prosecutor's Office will be busy with work.

“We need to somehow remove this issue in society, we need a solution,” the Belarusian leader summed up.
