Lukashenko reaffirmed readiness to liaise with Switzerland on the principles of equality and mutual respect

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has congratulated President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset on Swiss National Day – as reported by the Belarusian leader’s press service

“The history of Belarus and Switzerland is inextricably linked with their geographical position at the crossroads of strategically important routes; both states are peculiar for ethnic and confessional diversity. We have a lot in common,” the congratulatory message reads.

The Head of State expressed confidence that the peoples of both countries have excellent potential for expanding bilateral ties in the economic, scientific, educational, cultural and sports fields, including due to the serious developments of the past years.

“In this sense, we cannot but be concerned about the current trends in Switzerland, which negatively affect the development of our interaction. First of all, this concerns joining the unfair and illegitimate EU restrictive measures against Belarus,” the President noted. “We expect from the Swiss partners a truly objective, balanced and pragmatic position in relation to the Republic of Belarus, reaffirming our unwavering readiness for co-operation on the principles of equality and mutual respect to restore peace and security in the region and the world.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Alain Berset and the multinational people of Switzerland further prosperity and well-being.
