During the extended talks, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that the leaders had discussed co-operation in the field of pharmaceuticals – in particular, production of substances – in detail. As he noted, the President of Uzbekistan enjoys good ties and relations with the leaders of the countries that produce them. “We have acknowledged that production of substances is not a cheap process, and it is not simple either. We buy substances and develop our pharmaceutical production,” the Head of State noted, adding that Uzbekistan is also interested in this. “We can establish joint ventures here and produce medicines,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Belarus’ former Healthcare Minister, Vladimir Karanik, noted that the relevant issues are being elaborated in detail by a working group, adding that the parties will analyse the regulatory framework – so that to understand what prevents the simplified registration of medicines. In addition, a list of drugs that Uzbekistan needs most of all will be prepared, and prospects of their supply to the neighbouring countries will be studied – so that to make the project profitable.

“That's right. As for technical registration, we have ‘a dictatorship’ – so we can resolve this issue instantly," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The Belarusian side is ready to help equip a clinic in Uzbekistan and to share the generated competencies in obstetrics. As noted by the Belarusian leader, the key point is to reach an agreement between the members of the governments of the two countries, and the heads of state will implement it promptly.

“The both presidents are open. We have blessed and supported all the projects. A roadmap has been worked out for three years, so let's implement it. These processes should be not slowed down,” Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed the meeting participants.

“I want to once again assure you: we will conclude all offtake contracts for as many years as necessary. As for pharmaceuticals, you should have no doubt. We are satisfied with your quality. I convince my [Government members] to prepare contracts, and I will take this issue under my personal control,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev assured his Belarusian counterpart.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that Belarus has preserved technologies and competencies in many industries, and the country is ready to share them. He stressed that the presidents discussed the prospects of co-operation and issues that need to be resolved literally ‘with pencils in their hands, delving into all numbers and letters’. “We are ready to lend a shoulder,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
