Lukashenko named components of success for any political party

The state has created the necessary legal conditions for party building, and the parties have been given ample opportunities to participate in the electoral process – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at a meeting with the leaders of the country’s political parties

The Head of State stressed that Belarusians have a long way to go in matters of party building. Addressing the leaders of the parties, he noted, “This path will largely depend on those present. The state has created the necessary legal conditions, and the parties have been given ample opportunities to participate in the electoral process.”

At today's meeting, it was proposed to discuss what other organisational decisions are needed. “It will be your turn to act then. If something depends on me, please tell me. The components of the success of any political party include an attractive idea, as well as professional, politically prepared and ideology-guided members. This is especially relevant now. If you manage to build such a system, then people will join you. If not, then no administrative resource will help, it will rather harm – especially at the stage of formation," the Belarusian leader stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted the initiative of the party leaders to nominate candidates for deputies of the Parliament, “I will give you a piece of advice: these people should be exclusively state-guided – like the party leaders who are present in this hall now. You will have to bear responsibility for them. Moreover, these people should be definitely professional! You may gather reliable people, but – if they lack professionalism – then this will become a mistake of you, and this will disgrace you.”

The President shared his conviction that the new composition of the Parliament will differ from the current one in that deputies will have to take a heavy load, “They will play a serious role in the future development of our country. To be honest, I cannot even imagine yet what a big role you will have to play. You will take everything on your own shoulders in difficult times and work. No one will manage to stay idle. So be attentive to recommend and support decent and strong people in this election process.”

Discipline is another issue that the Head of State drew attention to. “A party without discipline cannot be called a party. If you manage to build such a system, then people will join you. If not, then no administrative resource will help, it will rather harm – especially at the stage of formation,” he stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also outlined, “As for my attitude to the parties whose leaders are present here today, all of you are on equal terms for me. You are patriotic people, and I express my great gratitude to you for your stance. We are really special. We do not fight with each other for something. We will always find a place for everyone if we are aimed and oriented in the same direction.”

The President emphasised that today’s meeting has taken place on the eve of the electoral campaign, and therefore it was necessary to discuss the participation of political parties in it, and the prospects for party building. Aleksandr Lukashenko called for an open dialogue and proposals.
