Lukashenko: if SCO doesn’t slow down, this organisation has great future

If the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation does not slow down, the future belongs to this organisation – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during a conversation with journalists at the Khatyn State Memorial Complex, BelTA reports

The Head of State noted that if earlier the SCO was a regional organisation, now it is turning into a global structure. Countries from other regions already want to join the SCO, and these are quite rich states, e.g., Egypt and Qatar have become dialogue partners. Bahrain, Maldives, Kuwait, UAE and Myanmar will have the same status. Turkey has also announced its intention to join the SCO.

“The states have come here, and we are happy that we started to look closely at the SCO before all of them,” the President noted. “I think we were not mistaken that we took a step in this direction. This is only an advantage.”

“What we need to strengthen in the SCO is efficiency. If we have already started, we must go. The approach should be quiet, calm, and careful. And the moment is now such that we need to do it quickly. We need to give progressive humanity a chance. We must give a chance for people, for many countries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “If we don’t slow down, the SCO has a great future.”
