Lukashenko: funds invested in BSU modernisation should work for Belarus’ benefit

Huge sums of state funds have been invested in the Belarusian State University’s modernisation and, naturally, they need to work for the country’s benefit – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at today’s meeting on topical issues of BSU activities

Starting the conversation, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, “The impetus for this event was given by the Rector, and it was at his suggestion that I decided to gather today, although the topic is quite routine. I urge you to be absolutely open. On the eve of the new academic year, it is not for nothing that we have gathered at our university to discuss not only its activities, but also education in general. BSU is not just a university: it is Belarus’ history and future. Born in the years of the Belarusian statehood formation, it has become the embodiment of the scientific and industrial power of modern Belarus.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko also highly appreciated the current level of university developments, “You are actually working over top projects. I knew that you were doing that, but did not think that you have reached such a high level. We will make our industrialists, people who make a specific product thanks to your scientific inventions pay very serious attention to this (if you are interested). Actually, you have already done significant things – especially those dealing with space. Drones are the future. Today's conflict in Ukraine shows that this sphere is the future.”

The Head of State recalled his recent meeting with Roscosmos’ former head, Dmitry Rogozin, and advised scientists to contact him, too.

The President also pointed to the significant state support of BSU, “Your developments are fundamental, and I am very glad about it. In addition, as you know, huge sums of state funds have been invested in the modernisation of your university. Of course, this money should work for the benefit of our country, for the benefit of the social sphere.”
