Lukashenko: every scientist working in Belarus should be a patriot

Science is designed to serve humanity, while Belarusian scientists are primarily to serve their people – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at today’s ceremony of awarding doctor of science diplomas and professor certificates to scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers

The Belarusian leader addressed the scientists, “Every scientist working in Belarus should be a patriot. You know my position: no need to get down to work without love for the Fatherland. True, science is designed to serve all of humanity, it is international, while you – Belarusian scientists – are to serve your people first of all. Speaking about the quality of the research that has become the point of your life, we mean its creative component.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the care for people’s ordinary needs should be present in any scientific plan and research, “There should be no research for the sake of research, dissertations for the sake of dissertations. I say this consciously, because sometimes – as I am being reported – scientific papers which titles could hardly be immediately understood are prepared. After delving into their content, it looks virtually strange. Believe me, I am not a strong critic in this regard, but – being a very informed person and having decent work experience – I cannot but think of where these all can be applied. Do we need this?”

According to the Head of State, all people have got used to a certain comfort in their daily routine. “However, only few people realise that it is possible due to a long-lasting painstaking work. Only you know all this in full. You always work hard, expanding the limits of your capabilities,” he addressed those present.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed gratitude to all those who were involved in the success of the people of science, who supported them, “Each study keeps a piece of the talent of its scientific supervisor, the help of a laboratory assistant, and the support of relatives and friends. Differently speaking, the achievement of one is the victory of many. Your compatriots should know about such victories, and they will know. In the coming days you will become the main characters of news releases and printed publications – as is traditional.”
