Lukashenko about NATO exercises: no one should catch us by surprise

The Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus must see what is happening around and not let be caught by surprise – as stated by the President at today’s meeting on issues of Belarus’ state defence needs in 2022

The Belarusian Head of State recalled the large-scale NATO exercises along the borders of Belarus, noting that there are various fakes, arguments, and assumptions regarding this, “I’ve never hid and never hide: the Defence Minister and the General Staff have been given the task to foresee everything. Firstly, we must see what is happening in the neighbouring territories, with the border guards providing a lot of information, alongside the State Security Committee. Moreover, the military also see what is happening. Intelligence must work. No one should catch us by surprise: this is the lesson of the past war. We are not aggressors, and we are not going to attack anyone, but the gunpowder must be kept dry for the future, and today we must keep our eyes wide open. We need to see what our rivals are doing near our borders and respond.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, this is precisely the point of the sudden inspection of the Armed Forces launched last week, “Just imagine that the aggression began. How will it be carried out: from the western or southern territory? We see several scenarios. Thus, we must respond according to these scenarios, if, God forbid, this is how the events develop. Subunits and units are immediately given the task of advancing to particular areas, blocking the roads and the direction of the probable movement of the enemy. This is how we operate today.”

The Belarusian leader noted that the Armed Forces are working well in this direction but demanded that the State Secretary of the Security Council report on his vision of this issue.
