Kyrgyzstan interested in implementing logistics and transport projects with Belarus, co-operation with Belarusian Railway already developing

Kyrgyzstan is interested in implementing joint projects with Belarus in the field of transport logistics, and it has already started working on specific projects with the Belarusian Railway – as noted by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Belarus, Ermek Ibraimov, after his today’s meeting with President Aleksandr Lukashenko

The diplomat stated that, in recent years, there have been positive dynamics of growth in the joint trade turnover between the two countries, “The trade turnover between our countries has approached $200m [according to the Belarusian side, the volume of mutual trade stood at the level of $160.3m in 2022]. It would seem that the figure is small, but given the large logistical leverage, as well as the positive dynamics, I think that we will exceed this level in 2023. In H1, our trade made $100m.”

Mr. Ibraimov stressed that projects related to logistics, transport and transit are coming to the fore these days, “Kyrgyzstan has started work on the construction of a railway that will connect China with the Eurasian continent. In addition, we enjoy well-developed road transportation with this country. Given the lack of bandwidth, the project is very interesting. We have started working in this direction with the Belarusian Railway. Work has begun on the design of some sections of this railway. This is a very large logistics project.”

The diplomat noted that Belarus has extensive experience in this field, great opportunities in designing and carrying out contract work, “It has an excellent management system of the Belarusian Railway, and this is what of the major interest for us today.”
