President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Sverdlovsk Region Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev, who paid his second visit to the republic (the first one took place in 2019)

Welcoming the guest, Aleksandr Lukashenko underlined that, since the Sverdlovsk Region Governor’s last visit, the parties have been moving forward — no matter how difficult it was.
“At present, we enjoy almost $1bn in trade turnover, though it is actually hardly possible to name the exact figure: the movement of goods between Russia and Belarus is such that it is difficult to calculate in dollars. Thanks to you, we always take part in the Innoprom exhibition, and we will continue to do so. It is very important. Your region has always been, is, and I believe it will remain a strong industrial area. We are also an industrial republic, and we have achieved something in agriculture — also thanks to Russia and the market in which we are in demand as a country that produces good food,” the Head of State noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the automotive industry, the supply of municipal machinery and BelAZ trucks among the key areas of industrial co-operation. In turn, aircraft construction is a new focus: in particular, the joint production of the Osvey light multipurpose aircraft. The work over its development is overseen by the Ural Works of Civil Aviation and Belarus’ 558 Aircraft Repair Plant.
“We are already manufacturing a lot of parts for your aircraft industry at our plant, and it is important to us. We are gradually shifting from aircraft repairs to production, and particularly betting on the Osvey aircraft production in Belarus and supplies to the Russian market,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.According to the Head of State, Belarusian specialists are ready to design and build a metro in Yekaterinburg. “We can transfer half of the capacity, if necessary, for the construction in Sverdlovsk Region,” he said.
Belarus is also ready to participate in the renovation of the tram fleet and elevators for Sverdlovsk Region. The President added, “We will work with our Sverdlovsk Region over whatever you agree upon, whatever you like. You have always been the forge of everything we and the Soviet Union needed, and — especially during the Great Patriotic War — it would have been difficult for us to win that Great Victory without your region. We will do everything to make you sure that you have come not in vain.”
Sverdlovsk Region Governor: Belarusians are our real, closest friends
Yevgeny Kuyvashev
In the beginning of the meeting, the Russian guest congratulated Aleksandr Lukashenko on his victory in the Presidential election and wished him further success in his government activities for the benefit of the Belarusian people and the Union State of Russia and Belarus. “Indeed, our relationship is developing in the way that we are getting closer to each other every year. We are implementing a number of major projects, and we communicate very closely. You are our real, closest friends,” Mr. Kuyvashev said.
The Russian Governor recalled that, in 2022, an updated co-operation agreement was signed between the government of Sverdlovsk Region and Belarus. Last year, the Consulate General of Belarus was opened in Yekaterinburg. “That was a very effective and correct decision. Our interparliamentary and municipal ties are actively expanding. In 2024, Days of Yekaterinburg were held in Minsk, and we are waiting for the return visit of the Minsk delegation this year,” he added.
