After the recent meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Mr. Szijjarto said, “We are under enormous pressure now, in times of the preparation of the 11th package of sanctions – so that we allow sanctions in the nuclear sphere. I would like to emphasise once again that this will definitely not happen, since Hungary will not agree to any sanctions in the nuclear sphere, even minimal ones.”

It is also reported that the Hungarian Foreign Minister has stressed many times that the construction of new units of the Paks NPP is the key to the country's energy security. According to him, Budapest plans to block any initiatives that could limit Hungary’s co-operation with Russia in the nuclear economy. He also said that the introduction of sanctions against the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation was not supported by a number of European countries that also use nuclear energy.
