Germany wants to strengthen control over Telegram

Local authorities are dissatisfied with the fact that Telegram fails to take measures to prevent the spread of criminal and right-wing extremist content.

Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office plans to intensify interaction with Telegram on obtaining data on content and fulfilling the authorities’ requirements to remove unwanted materials.

Moreover, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser does not rule out closing Telegram but this would be clearly a last resort.
